Choosing aluminium windows for Kuwait’s climate
Aluminium is the default choice for windows in Kuwait for good reason: it does not warp in heat, it does not rot, and it carries large panes of glass on slim frames. But not all aluminium windows are built the same, and the differences show up in your cooling bill rather than in the showroom.
Thermal breaks are not optional
Bare aluminium conducts heat extremely well, which is exactly what you do not want in a window frame. A thermally broken frame puts a non-conductive barrier between the outer and inner sections, so the heat outside stops at the barrier instead of radiating into the room.
In a climate that regularly passes 50°C, this single detail makes more difference than any other specification on the quote.
Glazing: what the second pane actually does
Double glazing is often sold on noise reduction, which it does provide. The larger benefit here is the sealed air gap, which slows heat transfer considerably.
- Single glazing — adequate for internal partitions, not for external windows
- Double glazing — the sensible default for any room that is cooled
- Low-E coating — reflects infrared while still letting light through
A note on dust
Kuwait's dust gets into every moving part. Sliding tracks need to be designed with drainage and brush seals, or they bind within a couple of years. This is a fabrication decision, not a maintenance one, so it is worth asking about before you order.
Finishes that survive the sun
Powder coating holds colour far longer than wet paint under UV. Anodised finishes last longer still, but the colour range is narrower. Either way, ask what warranty covers the finish specifically — frames and finishes often carry different terms.
